BJP: BJP devises micro-level plans to leverage temple consecration in polls

From organising free travel to Ayodhya to distributing Akshat (sacred rice) to households for inviting them to the holy town, the BJP has made a micro-level plan to leverage the Ram temple consecration ceremony ahead of 2024 polls.

In Bihar -where the caste arithmetic of opposition can challenge its bid to consolidate Hindutva votes- the party has planned a a 20-day “Luv-Kush Yatra” to Ayodhya.

The yatra will start from Patna on January 2 and will travel through several towns of Bihar with havans and several religious events planned through its route.

This yatra is named after Luv and Kush – twin sons of Lord Ram and Sita. In Bihar, it has a political connotation as this term is used for alliance between the Koeri (Kushwaha) and Kurmi castes.

In its pan-India plan, the party has planned to distribute a booklet highlighting BJP’s role in the Ram Mandir movement and the construction of the temple by holding booth-level programmes.

Similarly, on January 22, the date of consecration ceremony of Ram temple, its workers at every booth across the will organise the diya-lighting events. The BJP has already pledged its support to all the events organised by its ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) related to the Ram Temple.RSS and VHP have been organising Kalash yatras and distributing Akhsat (sacred rice) as an invitation for the January 22 event.

The BJP had already announced its manifesto for recently held assembly polls that if it voted to power would organise free yatras to Ayodhya.

The party has prepared a plan to facilitate ‘darshan’ of at least 2.5 crore people from 543 Lok Sabha constituencies across the country in the next three months, beginning January 23.

Close to 7,000 guests have been invited including big names like Baba Ramdev, Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Mukesh Ambani, Gautam Adani, Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

Besides Prime Minister Narendra Modi, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat along with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath would be involved in the consecration ceremony.

Inauguration of Ram temple in Ayodhya, which has always been a key ideological issue for BJP, is being held just few months before the country is due for Lok Sabha polls.
