Grace Chong, the CFO and COO of Steve Bannon’s War Room podcast, reacted to the heckling of Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) on Columbia’s campus on Wednesday by arguing its time for MAGA and the progressives to join forces.
As Johnson spoke on campus and condemned the anti-Semitism he sees gripping the campus, he was heckled by many on campus. Axios congressional reporter Andrew Solender wrote on X that hecklers yelled, “We can’t hear you!” Solender added that some also yelled “Grandstand louder” and “Speak up you piece of shit.”
Chong, who along with Bannon, has been pushing hard in recent weeks for Johnson’s removal as he pushed through additional military aid to Ukraine and reauthorized FISA, two major redlines for the MAGA far-right.
After Johnson’s remarks, she shared some additional reporting on the heckling he received and added, “MAGA’s not a fan of @SpeakerJohnson, and neither are the progressives. Time to unite the haters. We need to get those progressive kids on @BillBlasterApp to call up their reps to vacate the chair! #ByeByeMike.”
Chong regularly shares clips from War Room on X, where Bannon remains banned, and promotes campaigns for her audience to call members of Congress and push for policy. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), who is a close ally of Bannon and regularly appears on War Room, has vowed to push forward a motion to vacate the speakership in an effort to remove Johnson. Bannon was also a fierce critic of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) and worked closely with Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) who successfully ousted McCarthy last October.
