Amar Singh Chamkila, who is known for his revolutionary music, is all set to come on the big screen. The role of the popular Punjabi musician from the 80s will be essayed by Diljit Dosanjh along with Parineeti Chopra playing the role of his wife Amarjot. With the film releasing on the streaming platform Netflix last week, many B-town celebs who watched the film are raving about the authenticity as well as the performances in the Imtiaz Ali directorial. Among them were also filmmakers Zoya Akhtar and Hansal Mehta along with Kunal Kemmu, who turned director earlier this year with Madgaon Express.

Kunal Kemmu took to his social media handle to share a long note along with the poster of Amar Singh Chamkila as he wrote on his Instagram story, “Uff!!! What a film. @imtiazaliofficial thank you for making this one exactly the way you did. It lingers within long after you have watched it. @parineetichopra I’m so proud of you my friend. Kya kaam kiya hai. Thank you for making this incredible film @netflix_in. @diljitdosanjh paaji don’t even know what to say about you. You are a supernova and you shine brightest as Chamkila. What a performance and that voice is just something else. The entire team of chamkila Take a bow you guys should be so proud of this one.”
In yet another post shared by Zoya Akhtar on her story, The Archies director said, “This one truly shines @imtiazaliofficial @diljitdosanjh @parineetichopra.”
On the other hand, Hansal Mehta too decided to share a long note as he couldn’t stop gushing about the beauty of the film. “Imtiaz Ali has been somebody i’ve known from before any of us made our first films. I loved Jab We Met and Rockstar. I’m not a crazy fan like so many others. Honest admission – I envied his drop dead good looks and craze among women. I’ve also envied his most forgiving fandom among those who loved his recurring themes and films. More on that some other day.”
He added, “His latest (his best) #CHAMKILA is not a film. It is an experience. Imtiaz has outdone himself and raced past his own filmography with a film for the ages. The film is magical, audacious, musical, lyrical, poetic, romantic, raunchy, angry, rebellious, hard and soft – sometimes all of these all at once. It is a feat, his best work and perhaps the performance of the year from @diljitdosanjh. This one’s a true blue modern Indian musical from @imtiazaliofficial and @arrahman. Kudos to the cinematographer @sylvesterfonseca for the beautiful visuals, to my old colleague and friend @artb for the complex yet coherent edit. To the writers Imtiaz and Sajid. To the wizard @kamil_irshad_official for those masterly lyrics. Also shout out to @parineetichopra – her fine performance sadly won’t be celebrated enough but this one’s truly her finest. This one’s meant to be savoured.”
He concluded by sharing, “Minor quibble : the excessive use of supers over songs. They were terribly distracting. Favourite song : Vida karo. Forever.”
Amar Singh Chamkila has music composed by A R Rahman and it released on Netflix India on April 12.
