The Food Standards Agency (FSA) put out an urgent food alert to people who shop at Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury’s.
Asda are recalling ASDA Extra Special Taleggio that has the date code of April 14 due to a potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes.
The major supermarket urged shoppers to “please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund”.
Those who are concerned about needing a receipt need not worry as it is not needed to return this specific item. Asda said: “We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused.”
The NHS warned Listeria monocytogenes can lead to listeriosis, which can make people “seriously ill”.
Listeriosis can lead to:
A high temperature
Aches and pains
Chills
Feeling or being sick
Diarrhoea.
The health body adds: “If you’re pregnant, you may also have a stomach ache or notice your baby moving less than usual.”
Listeriosis while pregnant could cause miscarriage or stillbirth, the NHS warned.
“Babies with listeriosis may also be irritable and feed less than usual,” the health body notes.
Moreover, older people are at higher risk of “getting seriously ill from listeriosis”.
Morrisons also warned of possible contamination of Listeria monocytogenes in one of their products.
Those who bought Morrisons The Best Taleggio (200g), which has the use-by date of April 14, are asked to return the item.
Morrisons said: “There is a potential risk some packs may contain Listeria monocytogenes.
“Please do to eat this product and return it to your nearest store for a full refund. We don’t need a receipt.
“We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and assure customers of our continuing commitment to the highest standard of product quality and safety.”
Meanwhile, Sainsbury’s recalled its Flaked Almonds because “Salmonella has been found in the product”.
Sainsbury’s cautioned the Flaked Almonds may contain Salmonella and “may cause illness if consumed”.
