Another Scottish Premiership side to demand VAR answers from SFA amid disallowed goal fury

ST JOHNSTONE chiefs are seeking an explanation why VAR intervened to chalk off Graham Carey’s goal against Aberdeen.

SunSport understands they want answers on the incident which saw John Beaton called to the monitor by video ref Steven Kirkland.

Saints thought they’d scored a legitimate strike to take the lead early in the second half, but both sets of players were left baffled while they waited to restart, as Kirkland trawled through the footage.

Beaton was eventually summoned to adjudicate on skipper Liam Gordon, who connected with Jamie McGrath on the boot as they both attacked a bouncing ball from a free kick.

After reviewing the video evidence themselves, Perth officials are furious at the role of VAR.

So they want refs boss Crawford Allan’s view of the incident in a bid to get clarity over whether Kirkland should have become involved when on-pitch ref Beaton had a clear view in real time.

VAR was involved again within ten minutes of the first incident, awarding a spot kick to the Dons for a foul by Gordon on Slobodan Rubezic.

But while the feeling within McDiarmid Park is that the decision was soft and dismissed by Beaton in-game, they do accept a case can be made for retrospectively dishing out that award.

Meanwhile Philippe Clement was furious with ref Steven McLean after Todd Cantwell was sent flying into rival boss Nick Montgomery in the might’s other game.

Things got rather physical right in front of the dugouts just a couple of minutes before half-time.

Cantwell looked to shield the ball right at the tunnel, but as he slowed down TWO Hibs players came clattering into him.

A combination of Elie Youan and Kanayo Megwa sent the midfield ace flying.

There was certainly nothing Cantwell could do to break his fall – or stop himself from flying into the man nearest to him.

Unfortunately for Nick Montgomery, that man was himself.

Cantwell was sent CRASHING into the Hibs boss, who subsequently tumbled to the ground himself.

Cue the sarcastic cheers from the crowd that often accompany the moment a gaffer ends up in a heap.

That wasn’t all, as Philippe Clement then got invovled!

The Rangers boss was visibly furious and remonstrated with ref Steven McLean.

The whistler seemed unimpressed and hauled the Belgian to one side.

Having been sent off in a friendly over the winter break, Clement certainly won’t have been wanting any more trouble.

On this occasion, the Gers boss got away with a talking to.

Thankfully Cantwell and Hibs boss Monty were both OK – although the Gers man did have to be replaced at half-time.

And just three minutes later, Cantwell stunned Easter Road with a stunning strike from distance.
