LONDON — Dazed Media is joining forces with Huasheng Media to launch the Chinese edition of Another Man, a title recently revived after pausing publication for four years.
Backed by one of China’s most prominent media conglomerates, CMC Inc., Huasheng Media is the publisher of the Chinese editions of T Magazine, The New York Times Travel Magazine, Kinfolk, Wallpaper and Nylon.
Hitting newsstands from Saturday, the inaugural issue will have four covers. On Tuesday, a cover featuring Balenciaga’s creative director Demna will be released as a teaser, building up to the brand’s spring 2025 women’s and men’s coed show in Shanghai on Wednesday.
Unlike the biannual global counterpart, the local edition will publish 12 issues a year. It will feature local content and stories syndicated from the U.K. edition.
Huasheng Media owner and chief executive officer Feng Chuxuan will serve as group editorial director of Another Man China. Tian Zhiwei and fashion designer Xander Zhou will take over the roles of editorial director and fashion director, respectively.
“The China edition is going to be a cool media brand for men, covering topics from men’s fashion, photography, and arts, to multiculture omnimedia expression. I believe Another Man China is going to become one of the most important content and creative platforms,” said Feng.
Jefferson Hack, cofounder of Dazed Media, added: “We’re thrilled to work closely with the Another Man China team and Huasheng Media to bring the most elevated expression of luxury men’s fashion to China. They are one of the most trusted publishers in the market and have big ambitions to make Another Man the most talked about launch in media this year and the most important menswear title in the region.”
The launch of the China edition will be accompanied by a series of parties and photography exhibitions in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu and Shenzhen in the coming months.
The original Another Man published 30 issues between 2005 and 2020. Due to the pandemic and a challenging media landscape, the men’s title was merged into Another magazine in June 2020.
In April, the title was relaunched under the direction of editor in chief Ellie Grace Cumming and art director Lina Kutsovskaya. It comes with a drastically different logo which resembles a Snellen chart.
Another Man marks Dazed Media’s third China partnership.
In 2017, it formed a successful joint venture with China’s Modern Media to operate Nowness after LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton sold its majority share in the video-first platform to Modern Media owner Thomas Shao. In January, Nowness unveiled plans to undergo drastic changes to expand its presence in Asia Pacific.
Through the introduction of Adrian Cheng, the Chinese edition of Dazed was launched in partnership with Yoho!, a Chinese media, e-commerce, and event platform, in 2019. However, Dazed China paused publishing shortly after Yoho! got into financial troubles during the pandemic. Its Weibo account was last updated in November 2022.
On a side note, Huasheng Media has decided not to renew its five-year publishing licensing agreement with News Corp. to run the Chinese edition of WSJ Magazine, the monthly fashion and luxury-focused insert for The Wall Street Journal.
