Gqeberha: The Empire fans are not surprised by actress Akhenime Mfenyana’s departure from the telenovela.
AKHENIME MFENYANA EXITS TELENOVELA
Entertainment commentator Jabu Mcdonald reports that Akhenime Mfenyana is leaving Gqeberha: The Empire as Anathi.
“Siyasanga Akhenime Mfenyana will be leaving #GqeberhaTheEmpire season two. Watch her final episode as Anathi Mxenge this Friday at 9 pm,” says Mcdonald.
The TVSA April Friday 12 April teaser indicates that Thulani and Anathi may not get married after Thulani (Tembinkosi Ngcukana) cheated on her.
“The wedding day has arrived; will it be happily ever after?”
The teasers also indicate that Mfenyana’s character may get killed on her wedding day to Thulani.
The Monday, 15 April reads: “The Mxenges react to the tragedy that has fallen”.
Thursday, 18 April: “Thulani decides he won’t be stopped in paying his respects”.
‘GQEBERHA: THE EMPIRE’ FANS UNHAPPY WITH HER CHARACTER
Viewers of Gqeberha: The Empire complained of actress Akhenime Mfenyane’s character as Anathi on social media in 2023.
Mfenyane joined the show in season one as Luzuko’s youngest wife and Thulani’s lover and baby mama.
Viewers revealed they were dissapointed with her delivery as she was unable to shed a tear and showed one range of emotion.
A fan from the show @tshepisotkzee compared Mfenyane to Larona Moagi, who played Tumi Mokoena from The River.
Tshepiso said: “Watching Akhenime Mfenyana as Anathi on #GqeberhaTheEmpire is as cringeworthy as when we watched Larona Moagi as Tumi on The River.“
The actress is former The Queen and Generations actress Zendande Mfenyane’s sister, who’s been hailed as one of Mzansi’s most-talented actors.
