Actress Sandra Hüller Appears in Phoebe Philo’s New Fashion Campaign

Anatomy of a collection meets “Anatomy of a Fall”?

On the eve of the Academy Awards, scheduled for Sunday, Phoebe Philo has cast acclaimed German actress Sandra Hüller in the campaign for the second installment of her signature collection.

Nominated for best actress in a leading role for her gripping portrayal of a writer trying to prove she is innocent of her husband’s death, Hüller is pictured beaming in a pair of angular, cat-eye sunglasses, and looking more serious sitting cross-legged on a white table wearing a black turtleneck and trousers.

Daria Werbowy also returns to model the “second edit” of Philo’s signature designs, with the initial delivery going on sale on phoebephilo.com from Thursday. The site ships to the U.K., Europe and the U.S.

Three subsequent deliveries are planned through March, April and May, along with select pieces from Philo’s first edit.

During London Fashion Week last month, Philo invited select editors to inspect the latest additions to her line, characterized from the get-go as a continuous body of work.

The visit underscored that Philo has a knack for creating clothes that are carefully considered and often plain, but at the same deliver jolts of fashion.

At her new headquarters in West London, she mingled her new designs with ones that she first unveiled and sold back in October, demonstrating that she hasn’t tired of batwing sleeves, leg-lengthening trousers, mannish tailoring, meaty leather jackets and extremely roomy tote bags.

Yet there were new, waist-focused silhouettes, including cropped bomber jackets and jersey dresses with tightly gathered ballerina skirts. Shoulders were widened with rounded padding on jersey tops and T-shirt dresses.

Philo also embraced more color, including cotton-candy pink for a roomy shirt and silky cargo pants and lots of pale yellow, a shade she endorsed during her years leading Celine.

A range of rich reds and a splash of mauve arrived on some of her key handbags, especially the Drive model with its channels of vertical padding, and on a new sandal style melding leather and suede.

Philo wasn’t present for the unveiling, but provided a fact sheet to highlight Hüller’s participation in the campaign, which will debut on her website.

The fact sheet noted that a third edit is scheduled to arrive in the fall of this year.

Philo supplied a biography of Hüller, lauding her as “one of the most accomplished talents of her generation, renowned for her intimate, intelligent and fearless performances on stage and screen.”

It notes that Hüller trained at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin, and that she was nominated for BAFTA awards in leading and supporting acting categories for “Anatomy of a Fall” and “The Zone of Interest,” respectively.
