Aussie gives verdict on famous British jacket potato joint after ‘crazy’ 24-hour journey

Two siblings, known on social media as the Spud Brothers, have achieved global fame for their delicious baked spuds, and recently had a very special visit from halfway across the globe.

Jacob, 28, and Harley Nelson, 21, have become so popular that customers wait in line for hours just to try their jacket potatoes.

The brothers, who post on TikTok under the username @TheSpudBrothers, always offer a free baked potato to the first customer of the day.

Recently, one dedicated fan revealed she had travelled for 24 hours just to taste one, leaving the pair astonished to learn how far the customer had travelled just to try their potatoes.

The woman, from Melbourne, Australia, queued up early to reach the front of the Hot Potato Tram in Preston, Lancashire.

When it opened, she requested a jacket potato with cheese, beans, garlic butter, and “a bit of sour cream,” sharing her story with Jacob.

She explained that the Hot Potato Tram, which the brothers acquired in 2023 from its previous owners, had been trending on her TikTok feed, prompting her to finally visit the UK.

“You’ve not just come to the UK just for this?” Jake laughed. “It’s crazy if you have and thank you so much.”

The woman, who remained anonymous, quipped: “It better live up to my expectations,” to which Jake replied, “I hope it does.”

The spud expert topped the crispy jacket potato with crispy onions as the woman mentioned that baked beans aren’t common in Australia.

After tasting them, she confirmed they were delicious, although fellow Australians in the comment section clarified that baked beans are indeed available in Australia.

“We literally have these beans in Australia,” one person commented, while another user added: “We have Heinz beans in Melbourne.”

After shooting to fame on TikTok, people from around the globe have flocked to try the Spud Brothers’ jacket potatoes.

“As a fellow Aussie, I have never craved anything more than one of these,” said one social media user.

Another person added: “I am watching from Kuwait from the Middle East and oh my if I came to the UK anytime soon I’m absolutely eating your jacket potatoes!”
