Former professional sprinter Oscar Pistorius’s parole hearing takes place today (31 March) at  at the Atteridgeville Prison in Pretoria. Oscar was convicted or murdering his then-girlfriend model Reeva Steenkamp on Valentine’s Day (14 February) 2013.

Here are five things to know about Reeva.

FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT THE LATE MODEL

1. SHE WAS KILLED ON VALENTINE’S DAY IN 2013 

Reeva Steenkamp was the girlfriend of sprinter Oscar Pistorius. On Valentine’s Day (14 February) 2013, Pistorius shot Reeva dead. According to the BBC, he fired four shots through a locked toilet door.

Pistorius said he mistook her for a burglar at his Pretoria home. Pistorius is gearing up for a parole hearing application in 2023 after serving half his sentence.

The family of Reeva Steenkamp are supporting a decision by the Supreme Court of Appeal which states that Oscar Pistorius only becomes eligible for parole in 2023.

2. REEVA WAS 29 WHEN SHE WAS KILLED 

She was only 29-years-old when she was shot by her then-boyfriend.

3. SHE WORKED AS A PARALEGAL 

According to Discover Walks, Reeva worked as a paralegal. In 2011, she reportedly applied to the bar and hoped to be a qualified legal advocate by the time she was 30.

4. SHE  WAS ALSO A MODEL 

The paralegal began her modelling career at the age of 14. She appeared in FHM magazine as a cover girl and model. She was also the first face of Avon cosmetics in South Africa.

5. REEVA WAS RAISED IN PORT ELIZABETH 

The model was born in Cape Town, but she was raised in Port Elizabeth with her parents.
