120 undocumented migrants nabbed in Ulu Choh in Immigration raid

ISKANDAR PUTERI: A total of 120 undocumented migrants were arrested by the Johor Immigration Department during an operation in an industrial area in Ulu Choh, here.

Johor Immigration director Baharuddin Tahir said the operation was conducted by 140 enforcement officers and personnel members at 1.42am on Monday (Jan 1).

“The operation was conducted based on public reports to a workers’ dormitory located far away from the main road at a factory for building materials.

“During the operation, a total of 600 foreign workers were inspected, and 120 of them were then arrested by the department,” he said in a statement here.

Baharuddin added that those arrested consisted of 108 men from Bangladesh, eight men from Pakistan, two men from India, one man from Nepal, and one man from Indonesia.

Those arrested were investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering the country without valid travel documents.

They were also investigated under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act of 1959/63 for overstaying.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated operation, Baharuddin added that the department has also managed to arrest another 150 undocumented migrants during their ‘Ops Ambang Tahun Baru’.

“We have conducted a statewide operation starting 12.30am on Jan 1 where a total of 750 foreign individuals were inspected.

“From there, we have arrested 150 undocumented migrants between the ages of 22 and 55,” he said.

Baharuddin said that the case was being investigated under Section 6(1) and Section 15(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963, and Rule 11(7)(a) and Rule 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1963.
