Young Sheldon is finally coming to a close after 7 seasons, but CBS isn’t done with the Cooper family yet. Chuck Lorre, creator of The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon has said that plans for a spinoff of a spinoff are in the works, reportedly centered around Sheldon’s older brother Georgie. Fans who’ve watched both The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon will recall seeing Georgie Cooper grow from a dumb caveman type to a character with some hidden depths. Not much is known about the spinoff so far, but we’re interested to see where its going.
Chuck Lorre Talks ‘Young Sheldon’ Spinoff Starring Georgie Cooper
Like most other characters in Young Sheldon, George “Georgie” Cooper Jr. first showed up in The Big Bang Theory. In the original show, Georgie mostly came off as dumb but caring and unlucky in love, with many ex-wives who were all still friendly enough with him to congratulate Sheldon when he won the Nobel Prize. However, it’s safe to say that almost no one in Sheldon’s family is shown in a particularly great light, so it wasn’t surprising for the Young Sheldon spinoff to expand on his character a bit.
In Young Sheldon, Georgie – played by Montana Jordan – has got his share of hidden depths. The spinoff shows him as goofy and a little dumb, but ultimately a caring guy who has the best interests of his family at heart. His blue-collar work paid for a lot of Sheldon’s schooling and supported his baby mama-turned-fiancee Mandy McAllister (Emily Osmet). He’s definitely not fitting the Big Bang Theory-established mold of nerdy and vaguely anti-social geniuses, so it could be interesting to see what direction the planned Young Sheldon spinoff might take.
Series creator Chuck Lorre is, of course, set to helm the upcoming spinoff. Reports state that Young Sheldon producers Steve Holland and Steve Molaro are joining Lorre in talks with CBS as Young Sheldon draws to a close and the network hunts for something to close its sitcom-shaped gap.
