Yogurt snack from New Zealand recalled over undeclared milk allergen

SINGAPORE: An importer has been directed by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) to recall a yogurt snack due to an undeclared milk allergen.

The product, Coconut Vanilla Dairy Free Yoghurt Drops, has been voluntarily recalled by New Zealand food manufacturer Kiwigarden, SFA said on Saturday (Jan 13). 

The implicated product involves all batches of Kiwigarden Coconut Vanilla Dairy Free Yoghurt Drops that come in 10g size.

“As the implicated product was imported into Singapore, the SFA has directed the importer Optimo Foods Pte Ltd, to recall the implicated product,” the agency said, adding that the recall is ongoing.

Allergens in food could result in an allergic reaction in individuals who are sensitive to it.

“Under the Singapore’s food regulations, food products containing ingredients that are known to cause hypersensitivity must be declared on the food packaging labels to protect consumers with food allergies,” said SFA.

Milk does not pose a food safety issue to consumers at large, except for those who are intolerant or allergic to it, it said.

Consumers who have purchased the implicated product, and who are intolerant of or allergic to milk, should not consume it.

SFA advised those who are intolerant or allergic to milk and have consumed the implicated products to seek medical advice. They may also contact their point of purchase for enquiries.
