WWE King and Queen of the Ring 2024 full card and predictions
Sami Zayn (c) vs. Chad Gable vs. “Big” Bronson Reed for the Intercontinental Championship
Patrick: Man, I am loving this Chad Gable renaissance, and I would love for him to win the title here, but I don’t think Sami Zayn loses it just yet. I don’t really see Reed factoring into the decision here – this is all about Sami as the underdog hero and Chad Gable as the conniving jerk. Sami wins, causing Gable to further descend into madness and further strain Alpha Academy, leading to Gable aligning with the Creed Brothers for Team Angle 2.0.
Winner: Sami Zayn
Shane: I do think Chad will be the one to dethrone Sami, but I don’t see it happening yet. I don’t think we have seen Chad at the nastiest heel he can be. That’s mainly why I feel that Sami will pin Bronson to retain. Not personally losing the match will send Chad into a deeper spiral and will eventually lead to him defeating Sami.
Winner: Sami Zayn
Jay: I love Sami and I hope he keeps it for a good while longer. I think Chad’s character at this juncture would only get stronger with a loss but I can see them trying to strike while the iron is hot. Yes, Bronson Reed is there but only for some sizzle. I’ll err on the side of caution for this.
Winner: Sami Zayn
Becky Lynch (c) vs. Liv Morgan for the Women’s World Championship
Patrick: I’m something of a Liv Morgan apologist, but this feud isn’t really clicking with me. It’s really nobody’s fault, as this was clearly supposed to be Rhea Ripley vs. Liv Morgan before Rhea got injured. A “Revenge Tour” where the person you’re trying to get revenge on is out of the injured list doesn’t really make a ton of sense. Becky continues to keep the title warm until Mami is back.
Winner: Becky Lynch
Shane: If I’m remembering correctly, Becky was slated to take time off after WrestleMania, much like her husband Seth Rollins. Then Mami got hurt. I thought they were then going to put the title on Liv in that Battle Royal, but they went with Becky instead. WWE has also done a fairly nice job of reminding everyone that Liv always comes up just short in her conquests, and that could be a storyline beat that leads to Becky retaining. However, I’m going to predict a Liv victory here. Beating Becky one-on-one for a championship is a hell of a lot more impactful than winning an over-the-top-rope battle royal, which is why I think WWE was holding off on putting the title on Liv right then and there. Becky can put over another competitor in Liv and can take some time off like originally planned, whereas Liv can go on a strong little tile run, keeping the belt warm until Mami returns.
Winner: Liv Morgan
Jay: I think this is Liv’s moment. She’s clearly on the precipice of a new high in her career and the moment is now to strike. It’s been a long time coming and it is well earned.
Winner: Liv Morgan
Lyra Valkyria vs. Nia Jax or Bianca Belair (Queen of the Ring Final)
Note: These predictions were written prior to SmackDown, so assumptions were made in who would be making the finals.
Patrick: The ascent of Lyra Valkyria has been a pleasant surprise. I haven’t really kept up with NXT for a while now, so she wasn’t on my radar, but she’s very talented and has been connecting with the audience surprisingly quickly. On the other hand, Nia has been honestly doing some of the best work of her career, and I think a menacing heel queen would be more fun and a better use of the accolade than a total newcomer to the main roster audience.
Winner: Nia Jax
Shane: I have to agree with Patrick on this one. Lyra has done fantastic work in the weeks since her call up, however, it does seem too early to give her the crown already. I’m assuming that Nia will beat Bianca on Smackdown and will then move on to defeat Lyra in Saudi. Plus, Lyra can transition into her continuing feud with Damage CTRL on Raw and Nia can step up to be Bayley’s first major challenger on SmackDown.
Winner: Nia Jax
Jay: I think this is too much too soon for Lyra. Nia has been a great addition to the roster since her return and this would be a watershed moment to cement her spot as top heel on the roster. I think she’d make for a great opponent for Bayley at SummerSlam and this would be a great bridge to get us there.
Winner: Nia Jax
Gunther vs. Randy Orton or Tama Tonga (King of the Ring Final)
Note: These predictions were written prior to SmackDown, so assumptions were made in who would be making the finals.
Patrick: This has been Gunther’s tournament since day one, and I’m glad it seems that WWE agrees. Gunther vs. Randy Orton is a matchup I had never even considered, but now that it’s on the table, I think it is going to absolutely slap. No doubt that we will be living in King Gunther’s world come Saturday evening, though.
Winner: Gunther
Shane: Gunther has only lost once per year since his WWE debut. And unfortunately for either Randy or Tama, Gunther has already lost his single match this year.
Winner: Gunther
Jay: Gunther. Like Nia, Gunther is due for a marquee win after losing the IC title and not to mention that we have a PPV in his home region coming up. He would be a great contender for the World title at that show and this would be a great way to heat him up. Not to mention, Gunther vs. Orton would be a fantastic finals to the tournament.
Winner: Gunther
Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Logan Paul for the Undisputed WWE Championship
Patrick: I’m glad they cleared up the whole “title for title” situation last week, because the only thing that was giving me pause was how they were going to deal with another double champion situation. Now that the match is only for Cody’s WWE Championship and not Logan’s United States Championship, it’s clear Cody will retain. It should be a banger, though.
Winner: Cody Rhodes
Shane: This is going to be an easy token title defense for Cody. I do hope they give him some sort of meaningful direction as champion sooner rather than later.
Winner: Cody Rhodes
Jay: This is the easiest match to call. Cody will take it and continue his reign until The Rock decides he wants to come back.
Winner: Cody Rhodes
