IAS officer B Abdul Nasar, a native of Thalassery in Kerala’s Kannur district, faced immense hardships from an early age. At the young age of five, Nasar lost his father. This forced him and his siblings to live in an orphanage. Their mother worked as a domestic helper to support them. Despite these struggles, Nasar finished his schooling, spending 13 years in the orphanage. By the age of ten, he started contributing to his family’s income by working as a cleaner and a hotel supplier.
B Abdul Nasar pursued his graduation from a government college in Thalassery. To help his family financially, he took up various jobs, such as delivering newspapers, providing tuition, and working as a phone operator.
In 1994, after completing his postgraduate studies, Nasar started his career as a government employee in the Kerala Health Department. His commitment to public service and perseverance led to multiple promotions, and by 2006, he had advanced to the position of Deputy Collector in the State Civil Service.
In 2015, Nasar was honored as Kerala’s top Deputy Collector, paving the way for his promotion to IAS officer in 2017. He later served as the Housing Commissioner for the Government of Kerala before assuming the role of District Collector of Kollam in 2019.
