MOURNERS were turned away after a cemetery was locked down by police after a body of a woman was found.
Cops sealed off Woodside Cemetery and Crematorium on Broomlands Street in Paisley after the grim discovery was made at around 11.25am on Saturday, December 23.
The death is being treated as “unexplained” but not suspicious as officers probed the incident.
A police cordon remained in place with police vehicles blocking the entrances to the cemetery.
One visitor to the garden of remembrance told the Daily Record how CID turned them away after the grave site was closed for several hours.
They said: “The police advised they had been a serious incident and had to close the premises.
“I travelled 40 miles to lay flowers at the garden of remembrance but it was blocked just after the gates with a police car.
“The policeman got out and said they couldn’t allow any access at all until CID finished their investigation.”
The cemetery is owned by Memorial Parks and Crematoria firm Memoria.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 11.25am on Saturday, 23 December, police were called after a woman was found dead within a cemetery on Broomlands Street, Paisley.
“The death is being treated as unexplained but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.
“Enquiries are ongoing and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”
