A wine connoisseur and internet sensation has delighted his fans by sampling one of the UK’s most budget-friendly wines.
With over 10,000 followers on TikTok, Tom Gibley shares candid reviews of supermarket wines, some of which he surprisingly enjoys.
In a recent video review, the bespectacled wine enthusiast gives an unexpected nod of approval to the affordable favourite, Echo Falls White.
Priced at £6.99 per bottle, this popular white wine is produced by the same company that makes Jam Shed, a brand Tom once described as “the most disgusting wine I’ve ever tasted.”
It’s a pleasant surprise, then, when Tom, known for his discerning palate, finds much to appreciate in this bargain-bin offering.
Pouring a generous amount into an expensive wine glass that he claims makes all wine “taste 20% better,” Tom takes a whiff and shares his impressions. In a unique description, he says, “It smells like pick and mix after a whole primary school has dive-bombed it. I can’t tell if it’s fried eggs, Tangfastics, or cola bottles, but it is ripe and sweet!”
After a professional-grade sip, he exclaims, “The lovely thing about Echo Falls is that ripeness and sweetness wash straight through my palate, leaving a watered-down tin of peaches that is perfectly drinkable.” He concludes, “Echo Falls, at £6.99, is a yes.”
Tom is popular on social media for recommending budget-friendly alternatives to expensive, pretentious-sounding wines. His straightforward opinions and humorous comparisons make it easy for everyday people to discover delicious wines for any occasion.
Recently, Tom praised a supermarket rosé that’s so good you could drink it all day, and offered essential advice on which wines to order at Wetherspoon, Nando’s, and Pizza Express.
