Akshay Kumar has joined the cast of Mukesh Kumar Singh’s upcoming film ‘Kannappa‘, starring Vishnu Manchu. This fantasy drama, rooted in mythology, revolves around the titular devotee of Lord Shiva. Notably, this marks Akshay Kumar’s debut in the Telugu film industry.
Industry tracker Ramesh Bala made the announcement on X that Akshay has been roped in.He wrote, “Bollywood Superstar @akshaykumar joins the cast of Prestigious Pan-India Biggie – Actor @iVishnuManchu’s Big Budget movie #Kannappa. Akshay Kumar’s journey in South Indian cinema began with the bilingual film ‘Ashaant’ in 1993, which was released in Kannada as ‘Vishnu Vijaya.’ This marked his first venture into South Indian cinema. Years later, he made his Tamil debut with Shankar’s 2018 blockbuster ‘2.0,’ starring alongside Rajinikanth. With ‘Kannappa,’ it will be his third project in South Indian cinema.
‘Kannappa’ features a stellar ensemble cast from various industries. Alongside Vishnu Manchu and his father, Mohan Babu, the film stars Prabhas, Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Madhoo, Sarathkumar, Prabhu Deva, Brahmanandam, Mukesh Rishi, Kaushal Manda, and more. The music will be composed by Stephen Devassy and Mani Sharma, with cinematography by Sheldon Chau and editing by Anthony.
‘Kannappa’ is Vishnu Manchu’s dream project, produced by Mohan under AVA Entertainment and 24 Frames Factory. Mohan also penned the screenplay for the film, which is based on a story developed by Paruchuri Gopala Krishna, Eshwar Reddy, G Nageswara Reddy, and Thota Prasad. Shot in Telugu, the movie will be dubbed into other South Indian languages as well as Hindi.
Initially, Kajal Aggarwal was to play one of the female leads in ‘Kannappa,’ but she reportedly opted out for undisclosed reasons. Subsequently, Nupur Sanon was cast, but she too withdrew from the project. Eventually, Preity Mukhundhan was brought in to fill the role. The film has been shot in numerous locations across New Zealand and Hyderabad.
