Jeremy Renner chose dad life over action-packed stunts. Yep, you heard that right. The Marvel star turned down a franchise that defines explosive action to be there for his daughter, Ava.
Renner spilled the tea on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, explaining that there was no way he could leave his 11-year-old for a year and a half. “There [was] no schedule, so I can’t go out for a year and a half. I gotta go be a dad,” Renner said, adding that it wasn’t just about the distance—it was about Ava. “I couldn’t move my daughter out here; her mom was back home. I was landlocked.”
But here’s where it gets even crazier. The Mission: Impossible team didn’t just ask him to return—they offered him a week-long trip overseas. For one reason: to kill off his character, William Brandt. Yeah, seriously. “They tried to bring me overseas for a would kill my character,” Renner recalled. And what was his response? Oh, just a casual “Nope. Not happening.”
“Get out of here,” Renner added. He wasn’t about to let them drag him across the world just to get a brutal (and probably unnecessary) exit. His character deserved more than that, and Renner wasn’t backing down. “If you’re going to use my character, you’ll do it right.” He even confessed to yelling at director Christopher McQuarrie. Talk about being a boss.
Fans were probably like, “Wait, what? No Brandt?!” But Renner isn’t closing the door completely. “When my daughter’s older, maybe there’s more of an opportunity to do something,” he teased. So, there’s hope, but don’t hold your breath. For now, it’s all about Ava.
And if you needed proof of Renner’s dedication to fatherhood, look no further than his recent Instagram post. To celebrate Ava’s 11th birthday, he shared a sweet Reel where Ava hugged her dad, planting a kiss on her forehead.
The caption? Pure gold: “As she grows, so grows our love, respect, and adoration … Happy 11th Birthday to my number one ❤️🔥🎁❤️🎁 #luckyman🍀.Is he becoming a dad later in life? Renner says it’s the best thing he’s ever done, so while we won’t see him running from explosions anytime soon, he is winning at life as a father. And honestly? Respect.
