Who is Starmer to tell us what we should or shouldn’t be eating? | Express Comment | Comment

Honestly, are people really that stupid that they don’t understand what it and isn’t good for them? You would think so following the latest brainless move by this ridiculous government to ban junk food adverts before 9pm from next October.

Who on earth gives Starmer the right to tell another person what they should or shouldn’t be eating? This really is a clampdown on free choice by the nanny state.

The first thing I have to say, or rather admit, is that I really do enjoy a quarter pounder with cheese from McDonald’s. Its beef patties have accompanied me home from many a studio late at night after a show. And I would go as far to argue the content isn’t as bad as many paint it to be – any product using 100 per cent British beef is a winner in my book.

Nonetheless, what we have here is a simple problem of passing the buck. And banning ads isn’t going to do that much when the real issue lies in the plague of fast food restaurants on our streets. Will the Government be closing those? I think not. They bring in too much revenue.

Seriously, go to any high street today and I guarantee you a cheap chicken shop will be lining it – with a throng of children outside every school afternoon. And once they’ve stuffed their faces, these same youngsters go home to sit on their backsides playing computer games or watching YouTube for hours. No wonder they’re piling on the pounds.

The most laughable aspect of the whole thing is that children barely watch television these days. They live on social media and internet forums. Talk about not knowing your demographic Mr Starmer!

The key issue here is to get parents to say no. Get children off the streets and doing more sports. And for heaven’s sake, let me eat my hamburgers in peace!
