Anupam Kher and Kirron Kher are among Bollywood’s most loved couple. They have been marred for nearly 40 years now and often don’t shy away for expressing their love for each other publicly. But, did you know, Anupam Kher wasn’t Kirron Kher’s first husband? The actress was previously married to businessman Gautam Berry. Her surname was changed to ‘Kiran Berry.’
Kirron Kher moved to Mumbai after her marriage with Gautam Berry. She knew Anupam already as they were close friends. In an interview with Shubhankar Mishram, Anupam recalled, “I wasn’t married; Kirron was married, and we were best friends for 12 years. She was my senior in college. She was a star—she was first in her class, the best actress, and an India-level badminton player.”
Kirron used to help Anupam financially during his struggling phase. The actor added, “As strugglers, Satish Kaushik and I would often go to Kirron and Gautam’s house for dinner, and she would give us Rs 50 for a taxi, but we would save that money and travel by bus instead.”
Anupam Kher Recalls Kirron Kher’s ‘Tough’ First Marriage With Gautam Berry
Anupam mentioned that their relationship started as a solid friendship which later turned to love when both of them were in bad relationships. He said, “When she was going through a tough time in her marriage, and I was going through a bad relationship—after the girl I was with had ditched me—Kirron and I fell in love and got married.”
For the unversed, Kirron Kher and Gautam Berry got married in 1979 and had a son named Sikandar Kher. Unfortunately, the couple decided to part ways in 1985. Sikandar was four years old, when Kirron left Berry and got married to Anupam Kher in 1985. After wedding, Anupam adopted Kirron Kher’s son, Sikandar, and gave him his surname.
