Bollywood’s ‘Desi Girl’ Priyanka Chopra Jonas and the industry’s ‘Bhaijaan’ Salman Khan collaborated on three movies during the 2000s. Their first movie opposite one another was ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi,’ released in 2004, which also features Akshay Kumar in the lead with Salman and Priyanka. The movie was highly loved by the audience and it kept the cash registers ringing at the box office as well.Following its success, they did ‘Salam – E- Ishq in 2007 and ‘God Tussi Great Ho’ in 2008. However, unlike their first movie, the last two failed to do the magic. However, it didn’t leave them disappointed, as they decided to star together in the 2019 released ‘Bharat’. But fate had something else stored.
In 2018, when Ali Abbas Zafar announced ‘Bharat,’ it was also announced that Priyanka Chopra would be playing the leading lady in the movie opposite Salman Khan. Unfortunately, just five days before the movie went on the floors, Priyanka Chopra backed out because of her wedding to Nick Jonas. Her leaving at the last minute reportedly did settle down well with Salman Khan.
During the promotion of the movie in 2019, he said to the press “Over Bharat, she chose USA in the ‘nick’ of time. She has worked all her life so hard and when she got the biggest film of her life, she dumped the film and got married.”
“Hats off! Usually, people leave the husbands for this. Thank you, Priyanka! I will always be thankful to her. Bharat was about to go on the floors and just five days before the shooting, Priyanka meets me and says that she wouldn’t be able to work in the film. Now, if Priyanka hadn’t left Bharat, how could we have brought Katrina on board,” he added.
Meanwhile, the role of the leading lady landed in the lap of Katrina Kaif, and she did justice to her character.
Further, in 2020 when Priyanka was requested to share her side of the story or react to the comment Salman made, she asserted that there was no trouble in their bond. Speaking to Mid day said, “The only thing I’d say is that if there was a reaction required you’d have had it by now. Salman is amazing. I’ve always admired him. He came for Nick (Jonas) and my reception, we went to his house, I’m really close to his sister (Arpita Khan). So, there’s never an issue with him.”
After ‘Bharat’ there has been no news of Salman and Priyanka collaborating. However, the fans are hopeful that the ‘Mujse Shadi Karogi’ jodi will return to the big screen one day.
