Prashant Kishor launched Jan Suraj in Bihar while advising actor Vijay’s TVK in Tamil Nadu, raising questions about his strategic focus for Bihar’s 2025 elections.

Renowned election strategist Prashant Kishor has recently launched his new political party, Jan Suraj, in Bihar and is actively working to advance his political career in the state. Simultaneously, he remains engaged in supporting various political parties across different states.
Kishor, who has transitioned from an election strategist to a politician, met with actor and TVK leader Vijay in Chennai on Monday. According to a Times Of India report, during the meeting, Kishor assured Vijay of his “support and guidance” for TVK’s victory in the 2026 assembly elections.
Political commentators have raised questions about Prashant Kishor’s decision to become a special advisor to Vijay’s party, TVK, in Tamil Nadu. The move comes ahead of the Bihar assembly elections, prompting speculation about Kishor’s strategic focus. Kishor will reportedly take on the role of ‘special adviser’ to TVK.
Speaking about Prashant Kishor’s involvement in Tamil Nadu politics when the Bihar assembly elections is approaching, veteran Bihar journalist Kanhaiya Bhelari shared that Kishor, fundamentally an election strategist, might be contemplating contesting the Bihar elections. However, Bhelari stated that it might not be easy for Kishor to leave his primary profession.
Explaining his point, Kanhaiya Bhelari said that whenever Kishor works as an election strategist for any party, he receives payment for it. “In this capacity, if Prashant Kishor has decided to work for actor Vijay’s party, TVK, then this is his profession. This will not affect his election campaign in Bihar,” he said.
Bhelari stated that members of Prashant Kishor’s party, Jan Suraj, are diligently working in Bihar. He added that Prashant Kishor will join the efforts in Bihar after concluding his current engagements in Tamil Nadu.
Kishor is currently engaged in preparations for the Bihar assembly elections. Prashant Kishor’s party, Jan Suraj, recently contested by-elections in four constituencies in Bihar. Concurrently, he has commenced preparations to field candidates in all constituencies in the assembly elections scheduled for 2025.
Prashant Kishor also made headlines in Bihar recently in January for his protest concerning the BPSC (Bihar Public Service Commission) examination. Kishor undertook a fast, demanding the cancellation of the 70th BPSC Preliminary Test (PT) and citing concerns about the examination process. His protest garnered significant attention, and he continued his fast until his health deteriorated. Subsequently, Kishor concluded his fast by bathing in the Ganga near Marine Drive in Patna. Currently, Kishor’s Jan Suraj party operates from an ashram established near Marine Drive.
According to media reports, Prashant Kishor held a three-hour meeting with Vijay in Chennai. During the meeting, Prashant Kishor shared his election experiences with actor-turned-politician Vijay Kumar.
Following the meeting, it was reportedly decided that Prashant Kishor would assume the role of special advisor to Vijay. However, there will be no formal agreement for this arrangement.
“The meeting was very cordial. Kishor shared his experience in strategy. The talks veered around the current political scenario in Tamil Nadu and nationally. Kishor will be a “special adviser” to the TVK, though no formal technical agreements will be made,” a source privy to the developments was quoted as saying in the Times of India report.
It has also been reported that Vijay Kumar will continue meeting Kishor periodically over the coming months to work on the political strategist’s recommendations. Vijay Kumar’s party is preparing to challenge the DMK and BJP in the 2026 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
The Times of India report further mentioned that Kishor will guide the internal teams of the party, including general secretary Aadhav Arjuna (election campaign management) and Vijay’s strategist Jhon Arokiasamy.
“Previous discussions between Kishor and Vijay took place a few years ago. These earlier plans were shelved, with Vijay postponing his political entry and Kishor shifting his focus to establishing Jan Suraaj,” a TVK party source was quoted as saying in the report.
Prashant Kishor made his initial mark in South Indian politics as an advisor to the DMK, guiding the party to victory in the 2021 assembly elections. This win marked the DMK’s return to power in the state after a decade.
