Water supply restored ahead of schedule in several areas in Penang

GEORGE TOWN: Water supply has been normalised for 37,000 consumers in Bagan Jermal, Mount Erskine, Tanjung Tokong, Tanjung Pinang, Tanjong Bungah, Batu Ferringhi, and Teluk Bahang ahead of schedule.

The Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) announced that the Batu Ferringhi Water Treatment Plant (WTP) has been fully re-commissioned.

“It may produce a maximum of 120 million litres per day (MLD) of treated water for supply to the seven key areas,” stated PBAPP chief executive officer Datuk K. Pathmanathan on Friday (Nov 29).

He advised consumers still experiencing water supply issues in these areas to contact the PBAPP 24-hour Call Centre at 04-2558255, where personnel are on standby to respond promptly.

The WTP was temporarily shut down from 10am on Thursday (Nov 28) to facilitate the replacement of a faulty 900mm valve in the plant, as well as high voltage electrical servicing and preventive maintenance work.

Pathmanathan noted that all overnight work on-site was successfully completed as planned, ahead of schedule.

“The water works at the Batu Ferringhi WTP will help to ensure continuous good water supply services along Penang Island’s popular beachfront areas in the years to come,” he added.
