CARGO PLANE CATCHES FIRE MIDAIR: EMERGENCY LANDING
A video by X user @chuckcallesto shows flames shooting midair out of the left wing of the Boeing cargo plane.
Atlas Air told GulfNews in a statement this week: “The crew followed all standard procedures and safely returned to MIA.” They also revealed that it would conduct an inspection to determine the cause of the incident which happened on Thursday, 18 January.
CNN reports that the plane was in the air for 14 minutes and the incident may have begun about three minutes into the flight. The crew reported an engine fire, according to air traffic recordings.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and National Transportation Safety Board said in their investigation that a post-flight inspection showed a softball-size hole above the engine.
A spokesperson for Atlas Air also revealed to Business Insider on Friday, 19 January that the Boeing plane landed safely, and there were no injuries reported.

X USERS REACT TO PLANE CATCHING FIRE
@ChristinaPushaw: “Boeing seems to be having a lot of safety issues lately. Perhaps there’s perverse incentives at play. When a company can remain prosperous not by ensuring its products are safe but instead by buying politicians and pushing DEI/ESG ideology, we are all worse off. Thank God they’re OK. Bravo to that pilot.”
@Emotionalogic: “The word “Boeing” shows up in things like this because it generates clicks. 747s haven’t been built in several years, and ALL the design was done well prior to this one being built – but hey, it generates revenue if we play off recent events that *were* a Boeing issue.”
@imjdsharp: “It’s almost like they’re trying to get us all to stop flying at this point.”
@BarnettforAZ: “WTH. Why all of a sudden, all these major problems with Boeing 747? Etc.”
@terrortheerror: “Hard to tell but looks like an engine fire which is not great but not horrible. Also, atlas air is a cargo carrier not passenger.”
@JustXAshton: “I guess planes don’t burn up in minutes when on fire since they were able to land. Glad they are safe. “
