Another show in 2023 bites the dust before we head to 2024. Max has canceled Warrior and has signed a deal to give it to Netflix. The martial arts series will be available at its new home in February 2024 while still being available at its previous streaming service.
The move for the series marks its third since its debut in 2019. Its first two seasons were on Cinemax; then, as it moved away from original projects, the show landed at Max for its third season. Season 3 premiered in the summer and concluded on August 17.
Warrior Canceled at Max and Finds a New Home at Netflix With a Possible Fourth Season
Deadline confirmed that if things go well for Warrior when it co-exists on Max and Netflix, it could have a fourth season at the latter. Although it seems unlikely, if it were to happen, it would be complex to navigate. The actors were let go from their contract with the series. Leading star Andrew Koji is getting himself busy by joining the cast of Gangs of London and is entering production on Sixteen, an action-comedy from Warrior director Brett Chan.
The concept was originally from Bruce Lee. It was then brought to life by series creator Jonathan Trooper (The Adam Project). To ensure the work of the martial artists is retained, it is executive produced by his daughter, Shannon Lee, who also starred in an episode of the series. In a statement to Deadline, she said that her “wish is that the huge global Netflix audience LOVES Warrior and from that Love more goodness flows.”
You can watch Warrior on Max and soon Netflix, but no concrete date has been given beyond the February 2024 window. The series is set in the late 19th century and follows a Chinese immigrant (Koji) who joins a San Fransisco gang that is in the middle of a gang war.
