Mohan Yadav, a three-time MLA from the Ujjain South Assembly constituency, had served as the Higher Education Minister in the outgoing Cabinet under the leadership of Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Yadav, 58, has close ties to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). His political journey began during his student days, and he gradually ascended the ranks, becoming the higher education minister. Notably, in 2021, he made headlines by proposing to make the Hindu epic ‘Ramcharitmanas’ an optional subject in colleges.
Born on March 25, 1965, in Ujjain, the city synonymous with the Mahakaleshwar Temple, Yadav has a diverse educational background, holding a doctorate (PhD), LLB, and MBA degrees. He has been associated with the RSS since his youth.
Yadav began his political career as the joint secretary of Madhav Science College in Ujjain in 1982. He later became the president of the college in 1984. In 2013, Mr. Yadav was elected as an MLA for the first time from the Ujjain South constituency. During his tenure, he served as the chairman of the Madhya Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation from 2011 to 2013.
He was re-elected from the same seat in 2018 and once again in 2023. After being chosen as chief minister designate he expressed his gratitude to the party leadership reposing faith on a “small worker”. . He also acknowledged the expectations of the people of the state and promised to work towards fulfilling them. Married to Seema Yadav, Yadav has two sons and a daughter.
