On August 19, Netflix unveiled the trailer of another highly-anticipated drama from its 2024 slate – IC814 Kandahar Hijack. The series has gained momentum for many reasons, including the fact that it is inspired by true events and that it features an enviable ensemble cast with the likes of Naseeruddin Shah, Pankaj Kapur, Vijay Varma, Dia Mirza, Arvind Swamy, among many others. Ahead of the show’s release later this month, Vijay penned an emotional note about sharing screen space with acting legends.

In his long note, Vijay Varma traced his journey towards stardom and opened up about fulfilling his desire to share screen space with some of the most popular performers in the show and expressed gratitude towards everyone who helped him in achieving it. He shared posters from the film as a part of the post and wrote, “A boy from Hyderabad had a dream.. a big dream.. and it looked so distant that he wouldn’t even dare imagine it to be reality one day. The boy is me.. now a full grown man.. and the dream was to work with cinema gods Mr. Naseeruddin Shah and Mr. Pankaj Kapur. Now I have a freakin poster with these legends!” and added, “You did well.. little boy . I’m proud of u ??”
He further continued, “And thank you @anubhavsinhaa for making this happen.. And for bringing the best talents in the county to tell this gripping tale. This cast is ???? or as my fav @dietsabya says #IconsOnly A big shoutout to @castingchhabra for getting this Royal Rumble of a cast,” and concluded the same by urging the audience to have a look at the trailer of the show.
IC814 Kandahar Hijack is inspired by one of the most famous hijacks when an Indian Airlines Airbus A300 en route from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, Nepal, to Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi, India was hijacked on Friday, 24 December 1999 and it changed route to several locations before landing at Kandahar in Afghanistan. The hijack is said to have organized by five Pakistani militants with the motive to secure the release of Islamist terrorists held in prison in India. The show, which will premiere on Netflix on August 29, will also star Patralekha, Amrita Puri, Kumud Mishra, Manoj Pahwa, Divyendu Bhattacharya, Pooja Gaur, Yashpal Sharma, Sushant Singh, among many others.
