Raaj Shaandilya‘s slapstick comedy ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video‘ has had a mixed reception at the box office, despite an initial strong opening. The film, featuring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri, opened with a collection of Rs. 5.25 crore on its first day, surpassing Alia Bhatt’s ‘Jigra‘, which earned Rs. 4.25 crore on the same day24. The total box office collection for ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’ after two days stands at Rs. 12 crore. While the film initially benefited from a larger release and more screen counts—approximately 3,500 shows compared to ‘Jigra’s’ around 3,000—the subsequent collections have not met expectations. Fans have pointed to lukewarm reviews as a possible factor for the film’s inability to capitalize on its decent start. Many reviews described the film as chaotic and disappointing, although performances by Rao and Vijay Raaz have received praise.
Adding to this, ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’ has faced controversy regarding its use of the character ‘Stree’ from the Maddock Universe without authorization. Director Raaj Shaandilya publicly apologized for this oversight and has stated that efforts are underway to remove that segment from the film.
Set in the 1990s, ‘Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video’ follows a newlywed couple, Vicky (Rajkummar Rao) and Vidya (Triptii Dimri), who find themselves in a precarious situation when their homemade sex tape goes missing. The film also features notable performances from Vijay Raaz, Archana Puran Singh, Rakesh Bedi, and Tiku Talsania and marks the acting comeback of Mallika Sherawat.
