Saloni (Triptii Dimri) and Akhil (Vicky Kaushal) fall in love and get married quickly. However, Saloni dreams of becoming a Meraki chef, and Akhil’s smothering love becomes bothersome to her. The duo gets divorced, and Saloni moves to Mussoorie to fulfil her dream. However, circumstances arise such that Saloni has a one-night stand with her new boss, Gurbir Pannu (Ammy Virk), and her ex-husband, Akhil. What’s hot?

The movie begins on a promising and fun note as we see Saloni and Akhil’s sweet and steamy romance takeover the screen. Even the divorce drama keeps you engaged, as it leaves you wondering how the twist in the tale happens. Bad Newz excels due to its frequent use of humour, its incorporation of beloved Bollywood songs, and the chemistry between the lead pair. It is evident that Vicky Kaushal had a lot of fun playing Akhil Chadha on screen. The actor makes you laugh out loud with his performance, his Delhi attitude and accent, and even his overly loving nature towards Saloni.

The narrative effectively balances humour and strong emotions. The intermission leaves us wondering how Akhil and Gurbir handle the situation. Intense emotions, silly comedy, and competition between the main leads abound in the second half. What I thoroughly enjoyed about Bad Newz is how it uses several Hindi movies and their songs to create hilarious moments. A true Bollywood fan will definitely enjoy these little musical delicacies and references added to the story.

What’s not?

Even though the movie is entertaining, it sometimes becomes tedious for the plot to make sense. Establishing the primary plot takes over an hour, challenging our patience. In the second half, the cat-and-mouse game between Akhil and Gurbir takes the front seat, and it is not always enjoyable. Triptii’s Saloni fades into the background amidst their ego clash. Ammy Virk makes a dashing entry into the story, and sadly, that’s the only memorable scene he has. The filmmakers failed to provide any significant scenes between Gurbir and Saloni that could explain his desire to marry her and father the twins.

Final Verdict

Bad Newz is a fun blend of comedy and drama that keeps you entertained with its quirky plot and engaging performances. Vicky Kaushal’s portrayal of Akhil Chadha stands out, bringing humour and charm to the screen. Despite some pacing issues and underdeveloped subplots, the film offers plenty of laughs. The use of Bollywood song references adds a nostalgic touch for fans. Overall, the movie is an enjoyable watch for those looking for a light-hearted romantic comedy.
