Urgent warning to ScotRail passengers who may face rail chaos TOMORROW as drivers gear up for potential strike vote

SCOTS are set for a day of rail chaos as train driver shortages are set to cause disruption on certain routes TOMORROW.

ScotRail passengers are being warned to check before they travel on Sunday after services were amended due to a looming union vote over further strike action.

It comes after driver trade union ASLEF announced on June 24 that it may ballot its members for industrial action over pay.

On Friday, ASLEF told ScotRail it will go ahead with its recommendation of a member ballot to its Executive Committee.

The train operator has said there have been fewer workers available to cover overtime or rest day working, per their contractual right.

Glasgow and Edinburgh services have been cut or amended as a result.

On Sunday (July 7), services in the most impacted areas will run on an hourly provision as below:

Helensburgh Central – Edinburgh: services will depart Helensburgh approximately 55 minutes past the hour.

The first service will be the 0755 and the last service to Dalmuir will be at 2255.

Both the 0746 from Dalmuir and the 0757 from Bathgate to Edinburgh will also run.

This will also impact services that start and end at Bathgate.

Glasgow Central – Lanark: the Sunday hourly service between Lanark and Glasgow Central High Level will run as normal.

Glasgow Central High Level to Motherwell only services will be suspended.

Balloch – Motherwell: services will depart Balloch at approximately 8 minutes past the hour.

The first service will be the 0809 and the last service will be the 2209.

Services will depart Motherwell at approximately 41 minutes past the hour.

The first service will be the 0843 and the last service will be the 2241.

Milngavie – Larkhall: services will depart Milngavie at 11 minutes past the hour.

The first service will be the 0911 and the last service to Lanark will be the 2211.

A later service will run to Motherwell via Hamilton Central.

Services will depart Larkhall at 20 minutes past the hour.

The first service will be the 0920 and the last service to Milngavie will be at 2220. An additional service to Garscadden will run at 2320. 

Services will not call at the following stations tomorrow:

There will also be disruption for customers travelling on other routes, with approximately 75 per cent of services expected to run.

Mark Ilderton, ScotRail Service Delivery Director, said: “We’re sorry for the inconvenience caused to our customers.

“We know how frustrating it is when cancellations occur.

“We hope that these service alterations will give customers some certainty and reliability when planning their journeys.
