The UPSC 2024 exam calendar was released on May 10, 2023. The CSE 2024 notification will be released on February 14, 2024, and the registration process is expected to be open from the same day.As per the schedule, the last date of registration is March 05, 2024, and the Preliminary exam will be held on May 26, 2024. The Civil Service Mains 2024 will be conducted on October 19, 2024.
Based on past trends, candidates can review the anticipated eligibility criteria, exam structure, and other significant information regarding the UPSC CSE. Nonetheless, it’s advisable for candidates to carefully read the official notification for UPSC CSE 2024 before applying.
Age Limit
A candidate must be at least 21 years old but not older than 32 years to be eligible.
Minimum Educational Qualification
A candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree from a university recognized by the central or state government in India, or from educational institutions authorised by Parliament, or those designated as universities under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act, 1956, or have an equivalent qualification.
Number of Attempts
Eligible candidates can take the Civil Services Examination up to six (6) times. However, candidates from the SC/ST/OBC and PwBD categories who are otherwise eligible will have a relaxation in the number of attempts.
Exam Pattern
The Civil Services Examination will comprise two consecutive stages as outlined in Appendix I Section-I:
(i) Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination: This stage will be objective-type and is designed to select candidates for the Main Examination.
(ii) Civil Services (Main) Examination: This stage includes both written and interview components and is aimed at selecting candidates for the diverse Services and positions mentioned earlier.
Note: Candidates who pass the Civil Services (Main) Examination must choose which services they want to be considered for, from the options available for that year’s exam. They need to do this when filling out the Detailed Application form online, before the commencement of the Personality Tests (Interview) of the examination.
Negative Marking
Candidates need to be aware that if they answer a question incorrectly in the multiple-choice section, they will lose marks.
Application Fee
Based on past years’ patterns, candidates (excluding women, SC, ST, and Persons with Benchmark Disability candidates who don’t need to pay fees) must pay a fee of Rs. 100/-.
