11th-seeded Cranford continued its run after defeating third-seeded Plainfield 62-54 behind 32 points and 14 rebounds from Nick Amitie in the quarterfinals of the Union County Tournament at the Dunn Center in Elizabeth.
Cranford (19-5) took a 45-42 lead at the end of the third quarter before pulling away in the fourth for the victory. Cranford also led 35-24 at halftime after falling behind 13-12 in the first.
The victory marked Cranford’s seventh in a row and 13 of its last 14. Chase Teel added 12 points and nine rebounds while Josh Ketschke had 11 points and six rebounds.
Kamai Lowery led Plainfield (15-7) with 14 points and six rebounds.
Cranford will face second-seeded Union Catholic in the semifinals on Thursday at Kean University in Union at 3:37 p.m.
