UK beach with white sands and crystal clear waters named one of world’s best | Travel News | Travel

Breckon Beach, located on Scotland’s Isle of Yell, has been named the world’s third best beach by Conde Nast Traveller. The British beach is known for its white sands and clear waters, which are said to rival those found in the Caribbean.

It was only beaten by Palm Cove Beach in Australia and Honopu Beach in Hawaii.

Visitors to Breckon beach can not only enjoy the stunning scenery but also discover traces of Viking and ancient settlements.

According to The Daily Record, people have found everything from pottery and bone combs to Roman coins. The Shetland website also mentions that there have been many shipwrecks along this stretch of coastline, with artefacts washed up or retrieved by divers.

Unlike the Caribbean, you won’t find warm waters here so if you fancy a dip, you might want to bring a wetsuit and a cosy robe for when you get out!

But, the good news is that the beach is often sheltered from wind – which will be very welcome if you’re visiting on a cooler day. If you plan to visit, remember that the beach is in a remote location and there are some steep steps to the sandy dunes, reports The Mirror Online.

There’s loads more to see on the beautiful island of Yell. The largest of Shetland’s northern isles has lots of lovely walking trails; keep an eye out for wildlife like seabirds and otters, as well as over 120 broch sites dating back to the Iron Age.

You can also find lots more pretty beaches such as the tiny West Sandwick beach, which also has white sands and beautiful scenery.

For the brave ones, the amazing Windhouse is worth a visit but be warned that it’s said to be haunted.

It’s reported that the house was once owned by a bunch of dodgy characters and therefore the scene of everything from beatings to a hanging, while there’s also said to be a Neolithic burial cairn under the foundations.
