NEW YORK, Jan. 23 (Xinhua) — The U.S. dollar softened in late trading on Thursday.

The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, decreased by 0.11 percent to 108.046 at 3:00 p.m. (2000 GMT).

In late New York trading, the euro increased to 1.0423 U.S. dollars from 1.0420 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound climbed to 1.2360 dollars from 1.2324 dollars in the previous session.

The U.S. dollar bought 155.81 Japanese yen, lower than 156.52 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar added to 0.9068 Swiss francs from 0.9061 Swiss francs, and it fell to 1.4362 Canadian dollars from 1.4371 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar was up to 11.0035 Swedish Kronor from 10.9945 Swedish Kronor.
