TWO Scottish locations have been named in a list of the 15 best places to visit in the UK this year.
Writers at Time Out revealed the top spots in the country based on exciting events happening in each destination in 2025.
The city of Glasgow came in at number 15 for its “major sporting events, world-class concerts, and great arts and culture venues”.
Time Out magazine hailed its “beautiful parks” and comedy festival, running from March 12 to 30.
2023 was a bumper year for the city with a huge 47.3 per cent increase in visitors.
They added: “No trip back home is complete until I’ve visited the impossibly chic Outlier – great coffee, great food and endless home décor inspiration. And I always check out an exhibition or performance at Tramway, too.”
Orkney came in at number four on the list due to its “unique cultural identity”.
The archipelago off the northeastern coast is famous for its stunning scenery with idyllic beaches and dramatic sea cliffs, incredible heritage and world-class food and drink.
Writers urged visitors to drop by its free-to-attend 2025 International Island Games.
The event will see athletes from 24 island groups compete in sports from July 12 to 18.
Researchers added: “It’s also set to be a great year to spot the Northern Lights, and Orkney is one of the best places in the country to see the show.
“Orkney’s Highland Park whisky is famous for a reason, and in March, the distillery and visitor centre in the main town of Kirkwall is set to reopen after a swanky green upgrade.
“Stay in The Storehouse restaurant with rooms for Orkney-sourced seafood, then take a tour of the magnificent 12th-century St Magnus Cathedral.“
Orkney also plays host to its own Folk Festival during the last weekend of May.
It comes as two Scottish cities were ranked among the best in the world to visit this year by travel experts.
