Two Haryana Aam Aadmi Party leaders, Nirmal Singh and Chitra Sawara, who quit the party a few days ago, joined the Congress on Friday, delivering a blow to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s party in his home state and giving the Congress talking points in the runup to the Lok Sabha polls. The father-daughter duo, Singh and Swara, had held the post of AAP national joint secretary and state vice president before they quit the party and returned to their original party.
Haryana Opposition leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda, AICC in-charge Deepak Babaria, PCC president Udai Bhan and party MP Deepender Hooda welcomed back Singh and Sawara at an event in AICC. Singh, who has his area of influence in parts of Ambala, had held the post of PCC vice president and was a former minister, before he quit the party in 2019 to join the AAP. His daughter was a Mahila Congress leader when she followed her father to Kejriwal’s party. The Haryana Congress’ ‘catch’ from Kejriwal’s party coincides with the AAP and Congress engaged in a mind game over the question of the two inking a Lok Sabha alliance in Delhi, Punjab and Gujarat.
