Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) on Sunday released its 5th list of 111 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha Election 2024. Out of those 111 candidates, the name of Arun Govil popularly known for essaying the role of Lord Ram in Ramayan was also mentioned. The actor will be contesting the Lok Sabha polls 2024 from Meerut. Apart from Govil, the BJP also added Queen actor Kangana Ranaut’s name. She will be competing in the polls from Mandi.
This will mark the electoral debut of Arun Govil and even for Kangana Ranaut. Coming to Arun Govil’s professional front, the actor made his name in the TV industry when he played the role of Lord Ram in the Ramayan TV series which went on air in 1987. Govil also appeared in films like Paheli, Sawan Ko Aane Do, Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin, Jiyo To Aise Jiyo, Himmatwala and others. Interestingly, Govil was born in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.
Arun Govil moved to Mumbai in 1975. For a short span, he joined his brother’s business. However, he no longer enjoyed it and decided to find something more enjoyable and that’s when he started his acting career. Having participated in college dramas, he opted to pursue acting. Govil’s entry into Indian cinema occurred with the 1977 film Paheli, facilitated by an introduction to Tarachand Barjatya through his sister-in-law, Tabassum.
In 1997, Arun made his Bollywood debut with Prashanta Nanda’s film Paheli. He rose to fame following his roles in Kanak Mishra’s Sawan Ko Aane Do (1979) and Satyen Bose’s Saanch Ko Aanch Nahin (1979).
Later in 1985, Arun made his TV debut in Ramanand Sagar’s Vikram Aur Betaal. However, he rose to fame after he was cast as Lord Rama in Sagar’s TV series Ramayan in 1986. For Ramayan, the actor won the Uptron Award in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category in 1988. His acting in the TV series won hearts of millions of people.
