Former President Donald Trump shared an article Tuesday night to his 7 million followers on Truth Social reporting on Steve Bannon’s threat earlier in the month that MAGA will “get” former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe should Trump be reelected.
Trump shared the Newsweek article titled, “Steve Bannon Warns Former FBI Boss: ‘You Should Be Worried,’” without comment. He followed that post up by sharing a screenshot of a post from Bannon that read, “Deep State Criminals Fear President Trump’s Return to Power – Consider Fleeing Country to Avoid Being Held Accountable for Their Actions.” While not an explicit endorsement, Trump sharing Bannon’s statements is notable as Trump’s willingness as president to enact Bannon’s agenda will be a key component to its success.
Trump’s rhetoric surrounding using the power of government to punish his domestic critics has been a key issue so far during the 2024 election. Bannon, who helped run Trump’s 2016 campaign and served briefly in the Trump White House, has long pushed for exacting “revenge” against Trump’s critics.
In December 2023, Bannon made headlines for saying, “And I want the Morning Joe producers that watch us and all the producers to watch us – this is just not rhetoric. We’re absolutely dead serious.”
Bannon has also made light of his threats and mocked commentators on the left who take them seriously.
In the June 9th article Trump shared, Bannon is quoted as saying on his podcast, “And McCabe, you should be worried. You should be very worried. But also understand this, brother, we have extradition treaties with virtually every country in the world. And you go ahead and run and run as far as you want. We’re going to come and get you.” The article added:
Bannon went on to suggest that McCabe should “leave the country run [and] as far as you can” as the “long arm of American justice is going to get you” and return him to the U.S.
“Judgment Day is five November of this year,” Bannon said. “Accountability day starts on the afternoon of the 20th of January after Donald John Trump takes his hand off the King James Bible, and we go to work.”
Bannon is currently set to begin his four-month jail sentence for contempt of Congress in July.
