HEARTBREAKING tributes have poured in for a “much-loved” grandad who tragically died after a car crashed into a bus in a busy Scottish town.
The 58-year-old man, named by police as Francis Hooper, passed away after the fatal collision in Airdrie on Friday afternoon.
Emergency crews raced to the scene on Stirling Street after the alarm was raised at around 3.25pm.
Francis, who was also known as Frank by loved ones, was driving a car when it crashed into a bus and two other motors.
The beloved grandad was rushed to hospital but tragically passed away a short time later.
No one else was injured as a result of the collision.
Francis’ devastated family have paid tribute to the “much-loved” grandad after the crash.
In a statement through Police Scotland, they asked for privacy during this difficult time.
They said: “Frank was a much-loved husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him”.
His heartbroken wife Sharon also shared a post on social media paying tribute to her “loving husband and best friend”.
She said: “It comes great sadness to say goodbye to Frank Hooper my loving husband and best friend.
“You were a goofy, kind hearted man, amazing father and gramps. We will love and miss you forever. See you in the stars.”
Friends and family of Francis have also taken to social media to pay their respects.
One loved one posted on Facebook: “RIP Frank Hooper, you were my best friend and brother, you held me as a bay and I was there when you had your own.
“Truly friends for life, you added so much to my life I cannot even comprehend what my life would have been without you in it.
“I never dreamed that you would go before me, you always seemed indestructible, you will be greatly missed, RIP my brother until we meet again in heaven.
“Condolences to my friend Sharon and your whole family at this time.”
Another added: “Gutted to hear of Frank Hooper’s passing. Absolute gentleman.
“First time I met him in Glencoe years ago, knew he was a top man, and was fortunate enough to bump into him and enjoy his company on other projects.
“Thoughts with Frank’s family at this sad time. RIP Mate”.
Someone else posted: “Such sad news. RIP Frank Hooper one of the first people I met before embarking on the journey of marriage.
“Best friend and brother… a great loss to all our worlds. Sending lots of love and condolences to all your family and friends.
“Never in a million years would have thought this day would come.”
While a fourth said: “RIP Frank Hooper – absolute legend and gentleman. Fantastic person and friend. You’ll be missed by many people”.
Police locked down the road for hours after the crash to allow collision investigators to conduct inquiries at the scene.
The force has also launched a probe into the incident and has said that enquiries are ongoing.

Road Policing Sergeant Nick Twigg said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Mr Hooper.
“Enquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and anyone who has not already spoken to officers is asked to contact us via 101, quoting incident number 2154 of Friday, 11 October, 2024.”
