Travelling to Uttarakhand by car? You must carry a dustbin, or garbage bag with you

The Uttarakhand government issued a directive mandating that all vehicles entering the state must carry dustbins or garbage bags. This measure aims to address the ongoing issue of garbage disposal, particularly along the Char Dham route and near popular tourist destinations such as Mussoorie, Dehradun, and Nainital.

Transport Department to Conduct Inspections

The state transport department has been instructed to carry out regular inspections at all entry points to ensure compliance with the new rule. Letters have been sent to the transport commissioners of Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh, urging them to enforce this norm for vehicles entering Uttarakhand.

Garbage Problem Persists Despite Efforts

The problem of littering has been a recurring issue, despite various initiatives and concerns raised by NGOs and social organizations. Heaps of garbage have been frequently observed in key areas, prompting the state government to take stricter measures.

New Measures for Vehicle Owners

In a meeting, Chief Secretary Radha Raturi emphasized the need for tourists, tour operators, travel agencies, and drivers to uphold the cleanliness of the state. Vehicle owners must present a valid RC, insurance paper, fitness certificate, pollution certificate, and valid permits when issuing trip cards online or at state entry points. Authorities believe these steps will help in reducing roadside littering.

The new regulation aims to foster a cleaner environment and improve waste management practices in Uttarakhand.
