Three tiny grass verges bizarrely up for sale on quiet Scots street fetch double the asking price

THREE tiny grass verges sparked a bidding war — before fetching double the asking price at £1,750.

The strips of land outside people’s homes had mostly been ignored for years.

But when they went up for grabs for £1,000, four bids were made in just one day for the unusual plots in the village of Kingswells, Aberdeenshire.

Eventually a buyer forked out £1,750 for all three and became the proud new landlord of the verges.

One local resident admitted: “I was really surprised at this. I didn’t think anyone would want them.

“The whole thing was just so weird. What possible appeal could a grass verge on my street have? But I suppose it will be interesting to see what happens with them next.”

We told last month how the verges are in the sleepy suburb close to Aberdeen.

Residents said no one had ever bothered with them and they were forced to pay someone to cut the grass.

But they then became a big topic online when they were suddenly put up for sale.

Auctioneers Future Property Auctions had suggested they might be snapped up by a “shrewd investor”, even though the three plots did not come with planning permission.

Locals were baffled because they did not think the sites would be big enough to do anything with.

The new owner and their plans are currently unknown.

It has been suggested the verges might be used for a fast food van or car parking.

A resident said: “I wonder if the new owner will be up for paying us back for all the grass-cutting over the years? They owe us a few quid.

“I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled to see if they turn up to inspect their new buy.”
