Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor’s Stree 2 was one of the most highly-anticipated films of 2024. Released on August 15, 2024, the day-one opening numbers were extremely impressive, with the movie earning Rs 51.8 crore across India. As the days progressed, the week 1 collection of Stree 2 stood at Rs 291.65 crore, according to industry tracker Sacnilk. Thanks to massive appreciation and an intriguing storyline, Stree 2 is now nearing the Rs 600 crore mark. It is expected to reach this milestone by the end of the weekend. The film was made in a budget of Rs 60 crores.
The film has amassed an impressive Rs 607.07 crore in India alone, with its worldwide total reaching Rs 851.03 crore. In just six weeks, it became the first Hindi film to surpass Rs 600 crore domestically, overtaking Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan. While Gadar 2 still holds the record for footfalls, largely due to its success in single-screen theatres, Stree 2 stands out for its remarkable earnings and now holds the sixth position in the list of top Indian films.
Needless to say, Stree 2 proved its worth at the box office. Its prequel, Stree, was also a massive hit. Released in 2018, fans eagerly awaited the second part to hit the big screens. The movie featured the same characters from the previous storyline. However, this time it was not “Stree” who haunted the village of Chanderi, but a headless entity (Sarkata) who mysteriously abducted women living modern, independent lives.
The story created a massive buzz among the audience. Initially, when the trailer of the film was released on YouTube, it was well-received by fans. Netizens adored the performances by Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor. Directed by Amar Kaushik, the movie also features Pankaj Tripathi, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Banerjee in key roles.
