Biren said last time when Rahul came there was trouble in Manipur however people are alert and there won’t be fresh trouble this time. When the situation is getting better in Manipur, Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders are trying to make the situation more complicated, he alleged.
“Considering prevailing situation in the state, is it a time for politics by holding a rally ? This is the hour of protecting lives and properties, and providing comfort and relief,” Singh told the media on the sideline of a programme in Imphal on Sunday.
Terming Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra as ‘Bharat Todo’ (break India) yatra instead, he claimed that the situation in Manipur is gradually getting better and normalcy being restored.
“Whenever he (Gandhi) comes, problems crop up. If he comes, we have to be careful and alert so that he does not mess with the situation,” Singh said.
Gandhi visited Manipur for two days in June last year, weeks after the violence broke out in the state on May 3, and visited a few districts and met the affected people lodged in relief camps.
When asked as to why the yatra was not allowed to be lunched from Imphal, Biren said, “No rally is allowed in Imphal. “
The Congress on Sunday launched the 66-day long Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from Manipur’s Thoubal district. The yatra will culminate in Mumbai on March 20 after covering 6,713 km through 15 states. After the BJP Government gave limited permission to use the Hapta Kangjeibung Palace ground in Imphal for launching the ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’, the Congress shifted the launch venue to Thoubal’s Khongjom War Memorial.
Manipur cabinet held its meeting in hill district of Chandel. BJP mla Raj kumar Imo Singh stated in X, “It is heartening to see the State Government having the cabinet meeting in the Hill Disctrict of Chandel, solving various issues of the State, listening to the people of the area and addressing their concerns. Slowly but surely, we will all see a peaceful and progressive Manipur, which we witnessed in previous years. “
Assam Congress leader Debabrata Saikia on Sunday alleged that the state government has fixed dates for the distribution of forms for new scheme for rural women entrepreneurs in such a manner that it clashes with Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ in the state.
He wrote a letter to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in this regard, specifically mentioning his district Sivasagar from when the yatra’s Assam leg will commence on January 18, a date which has been fixed for form distribution in Sivasagar and neighbouring districts.
The state government has announced the dates for the distribution of forms for a scheme to develop 40 lakh self-help group (SHG) members as rural micro-entrepreneurs at individual levels and help them become ‘lakhpati baidos (millionaire elder sister)’.
Saikia pointed out that forms for his home district and nearby Jorhat, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Charaideo will be distributed on January 18, and for Majuli, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji and Golaghat the next day.
The Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra will cover 833 km in 17 districts of Assam, starting from Sivasagar on January 18 and exiting the state through Dhubri on January 25.
