Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) hit out against the “cruelty” from liberals toward Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) and her family on Wednesday following her son’s arrest.
After critics of Boebert, 37, took to social media to mock the news that Boebert’s 18-year-old son Tyler Boebert had been arrested and charged with several felonies, including theft, Fetterman pleaded with Democrats on Twitter for “restraint.”
“This is a family in crisis and the recreational cruelty I see on social media needs to be out of bounds,” wrote Fetterman, who spoke out last year about the bullying he had been subjected to due to his post-stroke disability. “I know the impact this has on children.”
He concluded, “I’m calling for restraint because cruelty has substantial collateral damage. We can’t ever forget that they didn’t sign up for this.”
Tyler Boebert was charged with several felonies, including “four felony counts of criminal possession of ID documents,” “first-degree criminal trespass of an automobile with intent to commit a crime,” and “three counts of theft of under $300.”
A police report identified six victims, including a three-year-old and a 64-year-old.
In a statement following her son’s arrest, Boebert said, “I love my son Tyler, who has been through some very difficult, public challenges for a young man and the subject of attention that he didn’t ask for. It breaks my heart to see my child struggling and, in this situation, especially when he has been provided multiple opportunities to get his life on track.”
She continued, “As an adult and father, Tyler will take responsibility for his actions and should be held accountable for poor decisions just like any other citizen.”
Last year, when Tyler was 17, Boebert announced that her son was expecting his first child. Boebert’s ex-husband Jayson Boebert was also arrested in January following an alleged altercation between him and his son.
