Savitri’s life began with hardship, as she lost her father when she was just six months old. Raised by her uncle and aunt alongside her mother and siblings, she faced early challenges. However, instead of focusing on academics young Savitri found her passion in dance and talent competitions, where she began to shine and showcase her remarkable abilities.
Savitri’s acting journey
At just 12 years old, Savitri moved to Madras with dreams of making it in the film industry. Unlike many superstars, her journey was far from easy, and she struggled to find work. On the verge of giving up, her breakthrough finally came in 1950 when she was cast in Samsaram.
Debut in Bollywood
While she is best remembered for her iconic roles in Telugu and Tamil cinema, where she shared the screen with some of the era’s biggest stars, Savitri also ventured into Bollywood. Her alcohol dependence grew over the years, and by 1969, it took a heavy toll on her health leading to diabetes and high blood pressure. After battling these conditions Savitri tragically passed away at the age of 46 following a 19-month coma. Her life filled with immense talent and personal sorrow ended far too soon.
