This actress has once ruled Bollywood with her hotness, is now living peacefully in Los Angeles. During her time in Bollywood, she always used to remain headlines for both her personal and professional life. We are talking about none other than Mallika Sherawat. She has openly shared her journey and the challenges she face along the way. From struggling with acceptance from her family to becoming one of the sizzling actresses of her time, she preserved and overcame every obstacle in her path.
Born as Reema Lamba in the small village of Moth in Hisar, Sherawat left home to pursue her career in Bollywood. Upon entering the film industry, she changed her name to Mallika. Sherawat is her mother’s surname. Coming from a conservative family, she had to face numerous challenges due to her relatives.
Malika became popular for her bold roles in the industry. She attracted notice with her appearance in 2003 film, Khwahish. In 2004, she starred in Murder, where she was noticed for her bold performance. The film went on to become one of the biggest hits of the year. Besides this, she has also acted in Hollywood movies. In 2005, she was in a movie called The Myth with Jackie Chan. She also acted in a Hollywood film called Hisss in 2010, where she played a shape-shifting snake woman.
Mallika never shied away from her expressing her opinions in the public. The actor has been open about facing harassment and casting couch in the industry. In an interview with PTI, Mallika said, “There were so many accusations and judgements on me. If you wear short skirts, kiss on screen then you’re a fallen woman with no morals. Men tend to take liberties with you. This happened with me too.”
The Murder actress also revealed that she used get calls from actors and would behave with her inappropriately. She was thrown out of many projects because several heroes would say “why can’t you be intimate with me? You can do it on screen, what’s the problem in doing that with me in private?.” She turned them down, which led to her being sidelined by the industry.
Talking about her personal life, Sherawat married Delhi-based piolt Karan Singh in 1997. She kept her marriage secret for a while as it could ruin her Bollywood career. However, the wedding only lasted for a year. The actress now lives a luxurious life in LA. However, she is making a much-awaited comeback in Bollywood with Rajkumar Rao and Tripti Dimri’s film Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. Directed by Raaj Shaandilyaa, the film is set to arrive on October 11, 2024.
