When Saif Ali Khan started his journey in Bollywood in 1991, he was supposed to make his debut opposite kajol. However, he was later replaced because of his unprofessionalism. During his struggling days, his ex-wife Amrita Singh was already a renowned name in Bollywood. It was during a photoshoot when Saif and Amrita first met and became friends.

Saif was attracted towards Amrita and asked her out for dinner. But, she was interested to invite him at her house. In a candid conversation with Simi Garewal on her show, Rendezvous, Amrita revealed how Saif borrowed Rs 100 from her as he had no money at that time. The actress said, “He had spent 2 days at my home and he had to go for shooting. First, he asked me for Rs 100 because he had no money. So, I said ‘why don’t you take my car? Then Saif said that he had the production car waiting for him outside so he doesn’t need my car.” And, in response Amrita insisted him to take the car, “No, do take it. If nothing else, you will at least come back to return the car.”
On the same show, Amrita shared that it was only Saif who was patient with her. “I could never imagine myself being married to a man younger than me. Saif was the only person who I had met in my life who was patient with me. That meant a lot to me.” She said. On the other hand, Saif stated that he doesn’t feel having same kind of understanding with anyone as he had with Amrita. “I strongly felt that you don’t meet people very often who on every chemical level do something right for you. I don’t think I am going to find this again, so I might as well hang on to it.” the actor said.
Despite the age gap of 12 years, Saif and Amrita got married in 1991. However, their marriage was short lived one as they had parted ways after 13 years of marriage. Together they have two kids, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan.
Saif is currently married to Kareena Kapoor and have two sons- Taimur and Jeh. On Koffee With Karan, when Saif appeared on the show with his daughter, Sara, he had revealed that before his wedding with Kareena in 2021, he had written a letter to his ex-wife, Amrita Singh and wished good luck for new chapter in their lives.
