Despite putting in his best efforts, many of Akshay Kumar’s recent films have failed to perform well at the box office.
Akshay Kumar is one of the few actors in the industry who has worked in almost every genre. From comedy, action-thriller, and horror, to everything in between, Akshay has been part of films across the spectrum. There was a time when any film featuring Akshay was bound to be a hit. However, in recent years, the actor has faced a decline in his box-office performance. Despite putting in his best efforts, many of Akshay Kumar’s recent films have failed to perform well at the box office.
As the saying goes, “Excess of everything is bad.” Perhaps Akshay Kumar’s overwhelming presence in theatres backfired, along with the misfortune of his films. The actor has been enduring a streak of bad luck over the past few years, and despite three releases in 2024, all of them were disasters, with no improvement in sight.
In 2024, Akshay Kumar had three releases and two cameos. His first cameo was in Stree 2, and the other in Singham Again. Both of these films turned out to be huge hits. However, the three films where Akshay had major roles failed to even cross the 150 crore mark cumulatively.
The three films Akshay Kumar released this year—Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Khel Khel Mein, and Sarfira—collectively earned only Rs 130.62 crore.
A staggering Rs 535 crore was invested in these films, including an estimated Rs 350 crore budget for Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Rs 100 crore for Khel Khel Mein, and Rs 85 crore for Sarfira. However, the actor was only able to generate a disappointing Rs 130.62 crore at the box office, resulting in massive losses.
Bade Miyan Chote Miyan was considered one of the costliest action movies made in India. The movie faced a clash with Ajay Devgn’s Maidaan. Khel Khel Mein, on the other hand, also clashed with Stree 2, which also featured Kumar in a cameo role. Sarfira, an official remake of Suriya’s Soorarai Pottru, failed to make an impact. In total, these three films earned only 24.4% of the massive Rs 535 crore invested in them.
