Netflix has unveiled the first look at Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia in Season 4 of the popular fantasy series The Witcher. This marks a significant change, as Henry Cavill, who embodied the monster hunter for the first three seasons, will be stepping down from the role.

According to Variety, Liam Hemsworth’s casting as Geralt was a surprise for fans after Netflix announced Henry Cavill’s departure in October 2022, shortly before the third season’s release in summer 2023. The news coincided with Cavill’s return to the DC Universe as Superman, although those plans ultimately fell through.

Cavill’s farewell to Geralt was heartfelt. In an Instagram post, he expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to portray the character. “My journey as Geralt of Rivia has been filled with both monsters and adventures,” he wrote. He acknowledged the responsibility of passing the torch, praising Liam Hemsworth and expressing his excitement to see his take on Geralt.

Liam Hemsworth, a self-proclaimed “Witcher fan,” echoed Cavill’s sentiment.  On his Instagram, he paid tribute to Cavill’s performance, acknowledging the daunting task of following in his footsteps. “I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character,” Hemsworth wrote. “I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into the Witcher world.”

This casting change comes as Netflix confirmed a two-season renewal, bringing The Witcher to a close with Season 5. While a release date for Season 4 remains under wraps, production is underway with writing for season 5 in progress.
